Neighborhood Vision 2025
Blighted, vacant properties pose safety hazards, erode the health of local housing markets, decrease surrounding property values, and reduce local tax revenue. Substandard housing conditions are a social justice issue and can be associated with a wide range of health conditions, including respiratory infections, asthma, lead poisoning, and negatively impact mental health. Actions in this area will undoubtedly rely on strong partnerships with local nonprofits, social services, and healthcare professionals to facilitate new housing improvement, mitigation, and assistance programs.
Pursue / Expand neighborhood programming focused around clean-up, planting, and garden maintenance. As Block Groups, community gardens, and more grow in the area explore opportunities to create yard maintenance and planting workshops, discounts at area nurseries, and promote access to Neighborhood Clean Up Tool (CNP), etc.
Create / Expand on annual neighborhood cleanup event.
Ensure that that SID includes program for neighborhood maintenance and planting.
Promote MTC’s support for Block Groups & gardens in MidTown.
