The Director of Community Empowerment (DCE) will lead MidTown’s efforts to connect with, engage, and build equitable relationships with residents in and around MidTown. The DCE will work with residents as well as build the MidTown community empowerment team to create a stronger and more connected community. The DCE will develop strategies for better two-way communication and connection between MTC and its residents and inform MidTown’s strategy around residential engagement, programming, and neighborhood development. The DCE will provide coaching and mentorship to a team of full and part-time organizers, canvassers, and volunteers. The DCE will facilitate the co-creation of initiatives with the community that address key priorities outlined by the community in the 2021 MidTown Neighborhood Vision Plan (NVP), including a focus on preserving history, celebrating culture and arts, and opening access to meaningful resources. The ultimate goal is for MidTown and the DCE to lead from behind in a way that empowers residents to take greater ownership for improving their neighborhood.

MidTown Cleveland, Inc. is seeking a dynamic and self-motivated individual to join our team as a full-time project associate for the AsiaTown team. In partnership with AsiaTown community members and Director of AsiaTown Initiatives, the AsiaTown Project Associate will assist in implementing a wide variety of programs to strengthen the AsiaTown neighborhood, including outreach to support businesses and residents and placemaking and marketing initiatives to build a stronger community. The ideal candidate has an interest in serving the unique needs of a working-class immigrant community and is passionate about creating spaces of belonging that reflect community power. The ideal candidate shows patience, problem solving skills, and care for the community.

Neighbor to Neighbor Cleveland Program: Midtown Community Engagement Specialist

In partnership with Cleveland Neighborhood Progress, The Neighbor to Neighbor Cleveland Program (N2N) – a Cleveland Community Engagement and Data Collection Project - is designed to build community engagement and organizing capacity across Cleveland neighborhoods, as well as create a platform for collecting granular community-level data on the digital divide and tax foreclosures across the city. The data is expected to guide strategic investments and interventions to achieve digital equity for Cleveland and for the most impacted Cleveland residents.

The ideal candidate is passionate about Cleveland neighborhoods and residents and has a service leadership mentality – placing the growth and well-being of people and the communities to which they belong first and foremost. The candidate should be a problem-solver, good listener, and patient. This person should also enjoy developing relationships, working with diverse groups of people, and helping residents work though challenges they are facing.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with the VP of Community Development at MidTown and CNP’s Manager of Organizing and Community Engagement to identify and determine which areas of the neighborhood to begin outreach and engagement efforts
  • Recruiting, coordinating, and managing a team of part-time resident community ambassadors to assist with data collection and canvassing
  • Building trust and developing relationships on the ground with community residents around digital access, digital literacy, and other quality of life issues
  • Connecting residents with resources available through the City, local nonprofits & other organizations
  • Coordinating logistics including mapping and handout materials for ambassadors
  • Collecting, inputting, and tracking field data from ambassador teams
  • Routinely convene with the CNP Manager of Organizing and Community Engagement and as part of a cohort for peer-to- peer learning, mentorship, and assistance

We are happy to announce our newest program, in partnership with Downtown Cleveland Alliance, will begin soon in Midtown and we are actively looking for people interested in working as Ambassadors in their neighborhood!

Clean and Safe Ambassadors are a visible and integral presence welcoming businesses, employees, and visitors in the MidTown neighborhood. Seven days a week, Ambassadors are active from 7am - 12am, providing a wide range of supplemental services such as safety escorts, assisting with car lockouts and jump starts, and more in the MidTown area.

Ambassadors will provide a necessary alternative to public safety that is created by and for the community. This alternative model of community support will help promote the spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and physical safety of community members.

Ambassadors will work between 24-32 hours each week and be paid up to $19 an hour.

MidTown Cleveland is seeking a Marketing Intern with the diverse skills set and flexibility to work on implementing a variety of projects by deploying MTC’s “Town” brand throughout the community. The Intern will be responsible for creating compelling content and report to the Marketing and Communications Coordinator.

Core Responsibilities

  • Write daily social media posts
  • Contribute to website and MidTown E-newsletter content development
  • Coordinate with local employers to update and manage job board
  • Assist with basic graphic design for flyers, website materials
  • Assist in coordinating various marketing methods including direct mail, print ads, and social media
  • Coordinating and assisting with MidTown sponsored events
    General office duties as assigned

MidTown Cleveland is seeking an Urban Planning intern with a diverse skill set and flexibility to assist with implementing a variety of neighborhood planning and placemaking/placekeeping projects in the MidTown neighborhood. In addition, the intern is would be responsible for providing additional support and capacity to the Community Development team on various projects as seen fit. Intern will report to the Neighborhood Planning Manager.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage the fall 2021 installation of the MidTown neighborhood banner program
  • Provide technical assistance for city processes related to placebuilding (e.g. permits, design review)
  • Event coordination for community-based placebuilding events
  • Assist in green infrastructure and tree planting initiatives
  • Provide additional planning support and capacity to community development team
  • Assist residents in implementing placemaking projects
